Man found shot in Hamilton Mountain driveway dies in hospital

A 24-year-old man is dead after a shooting outside a Hamilton Mountain home Tuesday night.

Hamilton police were called to Darcy Court, a small street with single-family homes northeast of Upper Wentworth Street and Mohawk Road East, around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 21 for reports a shooting.

Officers found a man lying in his driveway suffering from a gunshot wound, police said early Wednesday. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

This marks the city's 19th homicide of the year, another record for the city. It surpassed the high of 17 homicide investigations last year. Prior to 2020, the last time Hamilton saw 17 homicides was in 1999.

It also marks the 36th shooting in Hamilton this year. There have been 21 victims shot, including eight deaths.

Detectives continue to search for suspects and vehicle descriptions.

Area residents can expect a heavy police presence on Wednesday morning as the forensic team processes the scene and police canvass the neighbourhood for witnesses and video.

Police expect to release more information Wednesday afternoon.
