They are questions that have cast a shadow over the festive season: will new Covid measures be needed, and if so, when and what form will they take?
The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) has warned peak admissions could be comparable to, or even greater than, previous peaks without significant behaviour change or further interventions, but many Tory backbenchers have argued against legal restrictions.
