Rams putting Henderson on IR, could debut Akers in Week 17
The Los Angeles Rams will place running back Darrell Henderson on injured reserve but could unveil Cam Akers in Week 17, head coach Sean McVay said Monday, according to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.
Henderson sustained an MCL injury in Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings. He's expected to miss three-to-five weeks.
Akers entered 2021 expected to lead the Rams' backfield but tore his Achilles in July. He emerged as L.A.'s featured tailback down the stretch last season, finishing with 625 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Rams have divided most of the carries this season among Henderson and Sony Michel. The two have combined for 1,416 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging over 4.4 yards per rush.
L.A. will meet the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17 before closing out the regular season versus the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams have already clinched a playoff spot.
