Hamilton police are searching for a man after what appears to be an armed robbery at Tim Hortons on the east Mountain overnight.

Police said in a press release Friday morning that they were called to 675 Mohawk Rd. E., just before 3:45 a.m., Dec. 31, for a report of a robbery.

At the time an unknown male was in possession of what appeared to be a shotgun, demanded cash and proceeded to threaten the employees," the release said.

The male suspect fled on foot after getting an undisclosed amount of cash, according to the release.

Police also said that no one was physically injured during the incident. Const. Krista-Lee Ernst told The Spectator that two staff members were in the restaurant at the time of the incident.

A heavy police presence was expected to remain in the area around the Mohawk Road restaurant as police continued the investigation Friday.

Police ask anyone with information or video that could help to contact 905-546-4925. Or, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
