No injuries reported after Friday evening fire on Caroline Street South
No injuries were reported after a Friday evening blaze on Caroline Street South.
The intersection of Charlton Avenue West and Caroline Street South was closed so Hamilton fire could respond to a blaze beside Durand Coffee.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke and fire coming from the building, assistant deputy fire chief Steve Welton said.
Firefighters were dispatched shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Friday night. The call was later upgraded to a structure fire with more units called to attend, according to Hamilton fire's incident feed on Twitter.
Firefighters quickly forced" their way inside the building and began extinguishing the fire, Welton said. No one was located inside.
They could also be seen extinguishing flames on the roof, with at least six fire trucks present on the scene.
Crews contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to any of the neighbouring properties.
Firefighters are expected to remain at the scene for a while longer to monitor and extinguish any remaining hot spots, Welton said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, he said.
The dollar amount in damages is expected to be significant."
