Terrell Owens says he can replace Antonio Brown for Bucs
Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens said he should "absolutely" be on a short list of wideouts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers audition to replace Antonio Brown.
"If you think about where they are in the season, they don't need me for a 16-game season. Three-to-four games at the max," Owens said on the "Getcha Popcorn Ready with T.O. & Hatch" podcast. "So, yes, I feel like I can go in, I can contribute at a high level and can be productive."
Owens pitched the idea of coming in as a third-down or red-zone weapon.
The 48-year-old also added he's been working out throughout the season and revealed that an unspecified owner told him to stay in shape in case an opportunity presented itself.
"I know I can play the game. Would I love the opportunity to be on that list ... to show these guys that yeah, I can come in and contribute? The body of work speaks for itself."
Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians announced Brown was no longer a member of the team after the wideout walked off midgame Sunday, though his termination has yet to be officially filed.
Tampa Bay also lost wideout Chris Godwin to a torn ACL in late December.
Owens was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018 after recording 15,934 receiving yards and 153 touchdowns over his career. He last appeared in an NFL game in 2010.
"Who's to say that I can't go out there and do?" Owens said. "You can't tell me what I can't do if it's never been attempted ... let me go out there and show you."
