Garoppolo, Williams questionable for win-and-in game vs. Rams
The San Francisco 49ers listed quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and left tackle Trent Williams as questionable for Sunday's crucial game against the Los Angeles Rams, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic.
Garoppolo missed last week's win over the Houston Texans due to a thumb injury. The veteran signal-caller, who's started 14 games this season, was a limited participant at practice this week.
"We're good with where he's at right now," head coach Kyle Shanahan said of Garoppolo, according to team reporter Keiana Martin.
If Garoppolo is unable to face the Rams, rookie Trey Lance is expected to take over under center. Lance, the third overall pick in the 2021 draft, is 1-1 as a starter.
Williams hasn't practiced this week due to the elbow injury he suffered in Week 17. The nine-time Pro Bowler, who's one of the NFL's most reliable left tackles, has started 15 games this season.
The 9-7 49ers currently hold the last available playoff spot in the NFC. San Francisco would clinch a postseason berth with a win over the Rams, but a loss would open the door for the New Orleans Saints to steal their spot with a victory against the Atlanta Falcons.
