Report: Texans interview Hines Ward for coaching vacancy
The Houston Texans completed head coaching interviews with former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, the team announced Saturday.
Ward is currently Florida Atlantic's wide receivers coach and special assistant to head coach Willie Taggart.
The 45-year-old was an offensive intern for the Steelers during the 2017 season. He then spent two seasons as an offensive assistant with the New York Jets (2019-20) before joining Taggart's staff.
The Steelers legend retired after the 2011 season, spending his entire 14-year NFL career with the AFC North club. His 1,000 receptions rank 14th in league history, while his 12,083 receiving yards rank 27th.
Meanwhile, Lombardi is coming off his first year as the Chargers' offensive coordinator.
The 16-year NFL coaching veteran previously held the same role with the Detroit Lions (2014-15) and had two stints as the New Orleans Saints' quarterbacks coach (2009-13, 2016-20).
Houston has also interviewed former Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores for its vacancy.
