Hamilton area under snowfall warning — winter storm conditions expected in Haldimand, Niagara
A winter storm is expected to blow over parts of southern Ontario starting Sunday night and blanket the Hamilton area with snow.
Environment Canada issued snowfall warnings Sunday for Hamilton, Halton and Brant and a more severe winter storm warnings for Haldimand and Niagara.
Hamilton and areas west of the city are expected to catch the edge of the storm.
The snowfall warning alerts residents about heavy snow - totals of 15 cm to 20 cm - and blowing snow, with perhaps locally higher amounts" of 25 cm.
The winter storm warning calls for storm conditions with snowfall totals of up to 40 cm.
Travel is expected to be difficult Sunday night and Monday with snow falling up to five centimetres per hour and wind gusting at up to 60 km per hour in some areas. Especially in areas under a weather watch - Haldimand, Norfolk, Niagara and Eastern Ontario - residents are advised to avoid travel. The Monday morning commute will likely be impacted.
The snowfall is expected to end Monday night.
