Hamilton police say two men are facing numerous charges after an attempted carjacking in the downtown core.

In a press release, police said that two male suspects approached a victim while they were leaving their workplace in the area of Bay Street South and Main Street West just before 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 20.

Const. Krista-Lee Ernst confirmed to The Spectator that the victim was walking to their car after work.

Police alleged the suspects demanded the victim's car keys and had brandished a firearm." The victim managed to get away from the suspects after rejecting their demands. The male suspects also attempted to flee.

The victim did not suffer any physical injuries during the incident, according to the release.

Police said officers responded to the incident immediately and the two suspects were located and arrested a short distance away. A replica firearm was also seized during the arrest.

Two Hamilton men, ages 28 and 34, are facing several charges in relation to the incident. Ernst said the victim and suspects are not known to each other.
