Report: Capitals looking into acquiring Fleury

The Washington Capitals are eyeing an old foe in an effort to upgrade between the pipes.

The club is looking into adding Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, reports Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Fleury's contract carries a $7-million cap hit, a 10-team no-trade list, and expires after this season. Washington is up against the cap and would have to get creative to acquire the veteran netminder.

The Blackhawks entered Tuesday sitting 14th in the Western Conference in points percentage. They're expected to be sellers at this year's trade deadline.

The 37-year-old Fleury is still playing at a high level. He's posted a .913 save percentage and 2.76 goals-against average in 29 games this season.

The goaltender-needy Edmonton Oilers have looked into acquiring Vanecek, among several other netminders, Friedman adds.

Primarily due to his 13-year run with the rival Pittsburgh Penguins, Fleury has appeared in 44 regular-season games against the Capitals. He's also played in 19 postseason contests versus Washington, including five in the 2018 Stanley Cup Final as a member of the Vegas Golden Knights.
