‘Slow roll’ convoy could snarl traffic in Hamilton this weekend
Traffic in Hamilton may be snarled this weekend as a slow roll" convoy plans to make its way across the city.
Online posts for the event, which has been organized by a local group in support of similar demonstrations in Ottawa, say the slow roll" convoy will start at the Battlefield House Museum parking lot in Stoney Creek around 10 a.m. Saturday.
At 11 a.m., the group is set to roll out," heading to city hall via King Street, then onto Dundurn Street and finally onto Main Street.
In an email to The Spectator, Hamilton police spokesperson Jackie Penman said police are aware of the potential demonstration, warning that it could lead to traffic disruptions.
Our priority will be to ensure public safety and to keep the peace," said Penman. We will endeavour to minimize the impact on the travelling public and to ensure order and public safety."
Residents are encouraged to keep an eye out for road closures and alternative routes during the protest.
The Hamilton protest comes a week after thousands of people who are part of a so-called freedom" convoy descended onto the capital city - with many occupying the streets ever since.
Frustration has been building in Ottawa, with counter protests planned by residents for this coming weekend as more supporters are set to arrive. A trucker convoy protest is also planned for Toronto and the GTA this weekend at Queen's Park.
