Hamilton police seize 14 guns in 12 days
Hamilton police say they seized 14 firearms in just 12 days amid a servicewide effort to curb local gun violence.
Police announced the seizures in a release Monday, along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition, conducted energy weapons, a grenade and counterfeit American currency.
The proliferation of guns in our community poses an increased safety risk for our officers and the public," Supt. Martin Schulenberg was quoted as saying in the release.
It's unclear when the near two-week blitz targeting guns in the city occurred. Police did not respond to requests for comment.
Also seized in the firearm investigations was $31.5-million worth of drugs, including fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, police said.
Police said officers laid numerous" drug- and firearm-related charges in connection to the probes, ranging from possession of illegal firearms to possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking.
It was not noted in the release how many charges were laid or people arrested.
