Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Foligno has been suspended two games for kneeing Winnipeg Jets center Adam Lowry during Tuesday night's contest, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced Thursday.

Foligno and Lowry got into a fight during the third period of the Jets' 2-0 victory. The Department of Player Safety found that, while on top of Lowry toward the end of the altercation, Foligno used his knee to press the vulnerable Jets enforcer's head into the ice.

Both players were given five minutes for fighting, and Foligno received an extra two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Foligno argued that the action wasn't violent, but the league still deemed it intentional and deliberate, adding that he would've been more severely disciplined if he had used more force.

The 30-year-old has never been suspended or fined in his 644-game career. He will forfeit $31,000 in salary.
