Afternoon fire in Burlington leaves 1 dead

Emergency services responded to an apartment fire just north of Lakeshore Road.

At around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 20, firefighters responded to a fifth-floor fire at 480 Maple Ave. in Burlington. Firefighters located and removed an unconscious woman inside the unit, who was later pronounced deceased on scene.The Office of the Fire Marshal as well as the coroner are attending the fire scene to investigate the cause of the fatal fire.

Firefighters encountered heavy black smoke upon entry, the fire was quickly extinguished with fire damage limited to the fire unit.

Burlington Transit brought a bus to the scene to provide temporary shelter for residents who could not shelter in place.

Seven firetrucks with close two dozen firefighters were on scene alongside police and EMS units.
