Report: Garoppolo to undergo shoulder surgery

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to undergo shoulder surgery that will sideline him until the summer, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The procedure isn't expected to impact a potential Garoppolo trade this month, which has generated significant interest from multiple teams, Schefter reports.

The 30-year-old reportedly sustained the shoulder injury during the Niners' wild-card round win over the Dallas Cowboys. Garoppolo won't need surgery to repair the thumb injury he played through during the season.

He's expected to begin throwing again before July 4, according to Schefter.

Garoppolo holds a no-trade clause that will expire on March 16. However, the 49ers have said they're willing to work with the signal-caller to facilitate a trade.

San Francisco acquired Garoppolo in a 2017 trade with the New England Patriots. He led the Niners to Super Bowl LIV in the 2019 season and the NFC Championship Game this past campaign.

The Illinois native passed for 3,810 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2021.
