The New England Patriots are apparently looking to give Mac Jones more weapons in Year 2.

The Patriots inquired about a trade for Carolina Panthers wide receiver Robby Anderson, sources told Joe Person and Jeff Howe of The Athletic.

The conversation was reportedly "exploratory," and a deal isn't imminent.

Carolina is open to moving Anderson after his receiving yards total dropped by more than half in 2021 following a 1,000-yard campaign the year prior, adds Person.

The Panthers rewarded Anderson with a two-year, $29.5-million extension after his strong first season with the team.

New England attempted to bolster its receiving group last offseason with free agents Nelson Agholor and Kendrick Bourne.

While Bourne racked up 800 yards and five touchdowns, Agholor failed to provide the downfield production the Patriots likely envisioned when they signed him. Agholor averaged just 12.8 yards per catch and finished with 473 yards in 15 appearances.

Meanwhile, Anderson was a consistent deep threat during his first four seasons in the league with the New York Jets.
