Report: Packers' Adams won't play on franchise tag

Davante Adams has informed the Green Bay Packers he won't play under the franchise tag, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Adams and the Packers remain far apart on a long-term extension, Rapoport adds.

Green Bay's most recent offer would make Adams the highest-paid receiver in NFL history, but the two sides are still at odds over contract structure and length, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports.

The 29-year-old wideout has reportedly told teammates and friends he's unhappy at not having a new contract, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

The Packers applied the franchise tag on Adams earlier this month. He'd earn $20.1 million on the tag this season, per Spotrac.

Adams has been one of the NFL's most dominant wideouts. He's exceeded 1,300 yards in three of his last four seasons, recording a career-high 1,553 yards in 2021.

Players who've received the franchise tag have until July 15 to agree to a long-term deal.
