Report: Saints signing Maye to 3-year, $28.5M contract
The New Orleans Saints didn't take long to find a replacement for Marcus Williams.
The Saints are signing former New York Jets safety Marcus Maye to a three-year, $28.5-million contract that includes $15 million guaranteed, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Maye has become one of the leaders of the Jets' defense since entering the NFL as a second-round pick in 2017. The 29-year-old, who played on the franchise tag in 2021, appeared in only six games last year after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in November. He finished the campaign with 46 tackles and two pass breakups.
Maye is ahead of schedule in his recovery and is expected to be fully cleared by the start of camp, reports Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football.
The Florida product set career highs with 88 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and two sacks through 16 appearances in 2020.
Maye's arrival comes only hours after New Orleans saw its top safety, Williams, reportedly agree to a five-year, $70-million deal with the Baltimore Ravens.
