Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield has told the organization he'd prefer to be dealt to the Indianapolis Colts, sources told The Athletic's Jeff Howe.

Mayfield requested a trade this week amid the Browns' pursuit of Deshaun Watson, though it was reported that the team initially denied his request. It's expected he'll be moved now that Cleveland has reportedly landed the former Houston Texans quarterback.

Meanwhile, the Colts are searching for their next signal-caller following their trade of Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders after just one season together.

The Seattle Seahawks reportedly also talked about acquiring Mayfield. Like the Colts, they also have a void at quarterback after shipping Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos.

Mayfield's standing with the Browns has soured this offseason. He called the relationship "too far gone to mend" in a statement Thursday. He preceded that with a thank you message to the Browns' fanbase earlier this week.

The Browns and Mayfield earned a playoff appearance in 2020 but failed to follow up on their highly successful campaign last season. Bothered by injuries and inconsistent play, Mayfield's development stagnated in 2021 as he threw for 17 touchdowns to 13 interceptions and held a 6-8 record.
