Adams didn't think about 'dream' Raiders move until offseason

Davante Adams and Derek Carr have long flirted with the idea of playing together in the NFL, but a reunion between the former Fresno State teammates didn't seem possible until the Green Bay Packers and Las Vegas Raiders stunned the football world last week.

Following a contract dispute, the Packers sent Adams to the Raiders in exchange for a first- and second-round pick in 2022.

Though Adams' contract situation with the Packers became an issue last July, the five-time Pro Bowler didn't think about leaving Lambeau Field until after the 2021 season.

"(Teaming up with Carr) started to become more of a reality, I think, after the season. Obviously, it was something that we didn't even entertain during the season because we both had to focus on trying to win a Super Bowl. ... Once we wrapped up the season, started communicating a little bit," Adams said Tuesday.

He added: "Once we got to a point where it was something that could be realistic now and not just a thought, we started to try to put a little bit of a plan together. Obviously, I was still going back with Green Bay at that point and still weighing my options, but I think we got to a point where we felt it was a good move for us."

Adams has said playing with Carr again has long been a dream of his. Reuniting with the quarterback on the Raiders makes things even more special for the receiver.

"I was a Raiders fan my whole life, so it is a dream to be a Raider," Adams said Tuesday.

Las Vegas gave Adams a record five-year, $140-million contract after acquiring him. The Packers had previously used the franchise tag on him in February.

Adams and Carr enjoyed a pair of seasons together in college at Fresno State, putting up 3,031 yards and 38 touchdowns.
