Report: Chiefs to host Valdes-Scantling with Hill seeking trade
If the Kansas City Chiefs trade Tyreek Hill, they already have a replacement lined up.
Free-agent wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling is set to visit Kansas City on Wednesday, though no deal is imminent, sources told Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
In a stunning move, the Chiefs reportedly granted Hill permission to seek a trade amid stalled contract talks. The Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets are apparently the front-runners for Hill.
Valdes-Scantling is one of the best wideouts still available on the open market following the first week of free-agent action.
The veteran spent the last four seasons with the Green Bay Packers, racking up a combined 123 catches for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Valdes-Scantling established himself as one of the NFL's top deep threats while playing with Aaron Rodgers, averaging 17.5 yards per catch over his career. He also led the league in that category in 2020 with 20.9.
It was expected Valdes-Scantling would likely return to Green Bay following the club's decision to trade Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders.
While the potential addition of Valdes-Scantling won't completely replace the production of Hill - who has four 1,000-yard seasons over the last five campaigns - the Chiefs bolstered their receiving group earlier in free agency with JuJu Smith-Schuster.
