Flamborough Coun. Judi Partridge not running for reelection
Ward 15 Coun. Judi Partridge has announced she will not seek reelection in October's municipal election.
Partridge, who was first elected in 2010 and reelected in 2014 and 2018, announced the decision in a press release March 28.
I'm so grateful to our residents, small businesses and organizations on how we work together to support each other," she said in the release. There are very few communities like ours, and I feel very blessed to live here and to serve you as councillor Ward 15 Waterdown and Flamborough.
Building community together - it's what we do."
Partridge cited a number of achievements from her time in office, including new Stryker, L3Harris, Liburdi Engineering and CHCH TV investments in the ward, as well as the Memorial Park ice loop, Waterdown bypass construction, approved police and fire station and new Carlisle library, among others.
In an interview with Sean Cowan posted to YouTube March 28, Partridge confirmed her decision not to run for reelection, noting she has served 12 years on city council.
I've decided I am not going to run," she said in the video. Right in my first term I said I believe in term limits and I still believe in term limits," she said. This is a commitment, this is something to me that has been very important to get all of these things accomplished."
Partridge said the reason she ran for office originally was the huge amount of development slated for Waterdown. Due to her experience in senior management as an executive, she said she knew Waterdown and the ward needed someone who was qualified to be able to manage the development and stand up to some of the unfairness that can happen with development."
Partridge said she has had opportunities in the corporate world, including on different boards she is interested in participating with on a more national and international level."
She also thanked the people in the community who supported her in three elections.
I am so grateful to be able to have served as your councillor and to have the residents who supported me right alongside," she said. No one does this on their own - you have to have the support and the benefit of your residents working alongside you."
The Carlisle resident ran for Liberals in the 2018 Ontario provincial election, placing third behind current Progressive Conservative MPP Donna Skelly and the NDP's Melissa McGlashan.
