One dead, two injured after shooting on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls
One person is dead and two others injured after a shooting overnight on Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls.
Officers with Niagara police were called to the area around 12:30 a.m. Friday morning for reports of a shooting. The shooting happened near the Great Canadian Midway, a busy indoor entertainment centre that is a well-known tourist destination near the falls, with a strip of restaurants, museums, and atractions that often host visitors from around the world.
When they arrived, officers found three people who had been shot. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two were rushed to a local hospital by paramedics, and later flown out of town to other hospitals for treatment.
One of the victims is in critical condition, and the third is in stable condition.
Niagara Falls' mayor Jim Diodati tweeted on Friday, calling the incident tragic."
Police are now looking for a blue Ford F-150 Super Crew, four-door pickup truck that was seen speeding away from the area of the shooting. They say the vehicle had dark tinted windows, a tonneau cover, and a moonroof. It was missing a door handle and a front licence plate, police said.
The vehicle was last seen in Niagara Falls travelling west on Lundy's Lane toward the area of Montrose Road and Highway 420.
At this stage of the investigation, there is no evidence to suggest an ongoing threat to public safety," reads a statement issued Friday morning by police. Clifton Hill will be closed as officers continue to investigate.
Anyone with information or may have been in the area with any dash-cam footage is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 905-688-4111, option 4, badge #9104.
