It took two years and then some to crown a champion but senior hockey's best this season come from Dundas.

The Real McCoys beat the Hamilton Steelhawks 5-4 on Monday night in the deciding game of a best-of-three championship series in Dundas. It was the Real McCoys' first time hoisting the J. Ross Robertson Cup since 2015.

Shane Conacher scored the winner for Dundas with 1:23 left in the third period.

The league didn't crown a champion in 2020 or 2021 because of the pandemic. This season almost didn't get off the ground for the same reason. Brantford and Whitby, which had previously been in the league, weren't prepared to ice teams.

However, a shortened slate of games - a showcase, the league called it - was put together with Dundas, Hamilton and a new team from Flamborough.

The championship was the Real McCoys' seventh since 2002.

The winner would usually advance to the Allan Cup to compete for the national title but no tournament was scheduled this year because there was insufficient time to organize it.
