Putting out the Bat-Signal: Prop vehicle with fake Gotham City plates stolen in Hamilton
Hamilton police are asking for the public's assistance locating a stolen prop car that was being used for a film shoot.
Speaking to The Spectator Friday, Const. Indy Bharaj said the vehicle was stolen from the area of Main and Dundurn streets on the evening of April 19.
Bharaj said the vehicle, which was being rented from a Toronto-based company, had been dropped off in the area around 6 p.m. When the company returned to deliver another vehicle, they noticed it had gone missing.
The car was reported stolen on April 20, said Bharaj.
The vehicle is described as a black, 1979 Cadillac Fleetwood with fake Gotham City plates, which are made of plastic and dark blue in colour. The numbers of the plates are unknown, according to police.
The CW Network had been filming DC's Gotham Knights" in the city this week.
Police tweeted about the theft Friday afternoon once they were able to obtain a photo of a similar vehicle, said Bharaj.
We didn't want people thinking it was the Batmobile," said Bharaj. Gotham City, or Gotham, is a fictional city, best known as the home of Batman.
In response to police, Twitter users were cracking jokes about the theft, pointing to the Joker as a prime suspect and that the vehicle may have been stowed away in the Batcave.
Bharaj said police do not have any suspect information and investigators continue to review security footage in the area. The vehicle is believed to be worth approximately $4,000, he added.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police by calling 905-546-4925.
