Canberra trial due to start on Monday but lawyers for Bruce Lehrmann, who has pleaded not guilty, say he needs more time to seek new counsel

The man accused of raping Brittany Higgins has asked a Canberra court to vacate his trial dates less than a week out from its scheduled start.

Lawyers for Bruce Lehrmann applied for the dates to be vacated citing a lack of available barristers with his previous counsel now unavailable to run the trial due to begin on Monday.
