Two pedestrians seriously hurt in Hamilton crashes
Hamilton police are investigating two collisions Monday night in which pedestrians were seriously hurt, including one hit-and-run.
The first crash happened shortly after 8:40 p.m. May 30 on Highway 8 at Envoy Boulevard in Stoney Creek.
A 38-year-old man suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle, said Const. Indy Bharaj. He was transported to hospital where he underwent surgery.
Police are still investigating the circumstances of the crash.
The second serious pedestrian crash happened less than two hours later around 10:15 p.m. at MacNab and Hunter streets in central Hamilton.
In that case, a driver in a parked vehicle reversed and hit a 59-year-old woman. The driver fled the area before police arrived, Bharaj said.
The 59-year-old woman suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are speaking with witnesses and gathering surveillance video in the area to identify the vehicle and driver.
Both investigations are ongoing.
The collisions happen amid a concerning spike in serious pedestrian crashes in Hamilton, including 10 deaths this year.
