Watch: Avalanche take lead in Game 1 off of controversial onside call
We're only one period into the Western Conference Final and there's already a goal-scoring controversy.
The Edmonton Oilers and Colorado Avalanche exchanged blows throughout a high-powered opening frame but the edge ultimately went to the home team when defenseman Cale Makar struck with 14 seconds remaining in the period to make it 3-2.
The Oilers then challenged the goal for offside. Colorado forward Valeri Nichushkin appeared to be in the offensive zone when Makar finished carrying the puck over the blue line.
ONSIDE or OFFSIDE?

The play was ultimately determined onside, so the goal counted.

Game 1 between the offensively talented squads is so far living up to the hype. Evander Kane and J. T. Compher exchanged goals 36 seconds apart, while Nathan MacKinnon and Zach Hyman also made their mark.
