Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that extension talks with star defensive tackle Aaron Donald "are trending in the right direction," according to NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano.

McVay added he expects Donald will participate in mandatory minicamp, which runs from June 7-9.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year said Monday he would be "at peace" retiring if he can't agree to a new deal with the Rams.

While Donald is the NFL's highest-paid defensive lineman with a $22.5-million annual salary, T.J. Watt pushed the top of the defender market to just over $28 million with the extension he inked in September.

Donald is signed through the 2024 campaign but has no guaranteed money left on his deal.

The 31-year-old propelled L.A. to Super Bowl glory last season, adding the final piece to his Hall of Fame-worthy resume. He was also named a first-team All-Pro for the seventh straight year.
