Five people were taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle crash in Ancaster Sunday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Mohawk Road and the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway just after 3 p.m.
Assistant deputy fire chief Ryan Coburn said in an email fire crews extricated three people - one from one car, two from another."
Four people - a woman in critical condition and three others in serious condition - were taken to a local trauma centre, said Hamilton paramedic Supt. Dave Thompson.
A fifth person was also transported to a local hospital, he said. Another person was treated on scene and released.
Thompson said it's a pretty big scene."
It was lots of patients and lots of resources sent," he said.
Photos from the scene show at least two vehicles with significant damage, including a blue minivan and a black SUV, and debris on the ground.
Coburn said the city was notified of damage to guardrails.
The Hamilton police collision reconstruction unit is investigating the crash. No charges had been laid as of 6:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.
