Hamilton police say they have identified a suspect in the daytime shooting downtown that left two men with bullet wounds last week.

Police were called to the area of Hess Street North and Market Street on June 13 around 4:30 p.m. and found two male victims with non-life-threatening" bullet wounds who were taken to hospital.

Shell casings littered the street in front of an apartment building at 160 Market St. and two cars were visibly damaged.

On Monday, police announced an arrest warrant has been issued for Alexander La, 21, of Hamilton.

Police are asking the public for information about where to find La - but also urging residents not to approach the man they say should be considered armed and dangerous."

La is described as male, about five-foot-nine in height, 154 pounds and has long black hair.

Police are encouraging anyone who sees La to call 911.

Investigators have asked anyone with information about the shooting or La's whereabouts to call police at 905-546-3833 or submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
