Ambulance transporting patient in head-on crash in Mount Hope
Hamilton police are investigating a head-on crash in Mount Hope involving an ambulance that was transporting a patient who was hit by a vehicle in an earlier collision.
Four people, including two paramedics, were transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have a large area closed for the investigations, including northbound Upper James Street at White Church Road East, eastbound Airport Road at Homestead Drive and Upper James at Airport Road.
Police were initially called to an address on Airport Road, near Hamilton airport, for a person in crisis just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Const. Krista-Lee Ernst.
A 44-year-old man entered the roadway and was struck by a City of Hamilton vehicle. He was being transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries when the ambulance crashed head-on with a black SUV at Airport and Upper James.
The driver, a man in his 50s, along with both paramedics - a man and a woman - were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
At the scene, an ambulance could be seen near the intersection of Upper James and Airport Road with its passenger door open.
