Four-year-old in hospital after being hit by pickup in central Hamilton
A four-year-old boy is in hospital after being hit by a pickup truck in central Hamilton Monday.
Emergency services were called to Sherman Avenue North and Clinton Street around 5:30 p.m. July 4 after the boy was hit in the intersection.
Hamilton police said a man driving the pickup was northbound on Sherman, turning right onto Clinton, when the small child darted from the sidewalk and was struck.
Hamilton paramedics transported the four-year-old to hospital in critical condition. By early Tuesday police said his condition was not life-threatening, but he remains in hospital.
Due to the seriousness of injuries the collision reconstruction unit is investigating.
Detectives have ruled out speed and impairment as factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
Witnesses, including anyone with dash camera video, are asked to call the Hamilton police collision reconstruction unit at 905-546-4755.
The intersection was closed for several hours for the investigation. Sherman reopened around 2 a.m. Tuesday.
