An inquest has been scheduled to "examine the circumstances" of a workplace death at an Oakville construction site.

Dr. Kenneth Peckham, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Central West Office, announced Wednesday, July 6 that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of 32-year-old Ricardo Soares of Cambridge.

Soares, a married father of two, died on November 17, 2017, from injuries sustained while working at a construction site in Oakville, on Ford Drive north of the Kingsway Drive/South Service Road area.

The inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

"The purpose of the inquest is to examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Soares' death," Peckham said in a release. "Once all parties with standing have the opportunity to present their information and ask questions of the witnesses, the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths from occurring in similar circumstances."

An outpouring of mourning for Soares and support for his family can be seen on social media, with his mother Cristina Soares saying in a 2020 post marking 26 months since his passing, "miss u so much" and later adding "It is so hard get back to normal life."

The inquest is expected to last four days and hear from approximately seven witnesses.

The inquest will start at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, July 25. Bonnie Goldberg will be the presiding officer and Jai Dhar will be inquest counsel.

The inquest will be conducted by video conference. Members of the public who wish to view the proceedings can do so live at this link: https://www.youtube.com/c/OCCInquests
