Cashless debit card users able to opt out by October as Labor prepares to scrap program

Support will be available to those who want to transition off the card that often makes participants' lives more difficult', social services minister says

Participants in cashless debit card trial sites may be able to opt out of the program within two months, as the Albanese government prepares to abolish the controversial welfare initiative.

Social services minister Amanda Rishworth has promised transition measures and support for the more than 17,000 people on the income management program, which she said stigmatises" welfare recipients.
