Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. is reporting to training camp Monday and will play the 2022 campaign on the franchise tag, his agent Michael Portner told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

"He wanted to be there for padded practice because that's when leaders are developed," Portner said.

The Chiefs and Brown were unable to agree to an extension before the deadline for tagged players to sign long-term contracts last month. Kansas City's offer reportedly would have been six years in length and given Brown the position's highest signing bonus and average annual salary. However, Brown and his agent felt the contract lacked security.

It was reported that more than $40 million of the Chiefs' offer came in the final year of the proposed contract, which boosted its average annual worth. The amount of guaranteed money also wasn't revealed.

Brown is due to make $16.7 million under the franchise tag in 2022

The 26-year-old was acquired by the Chiefs in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens last offseason. He started 16 games in 2021 and earned his third straight Pro Bowl invite.
