Halton Regional Police are investigating a bizarre crash in Oakville Saturday (Aug. 6) in which a car struck two cyclists.

The two male cyclists were transported to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital after the incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Dundas Street, between Tremaine Road and Bronte Road.

Police say it appears the westbound vehicle suddenly veered into the eastbound lanes and struck the cyclists.

Two cyclists were struck. A third man who was cycling with the group was not injured, police said.

Officers are investigating to see whether it was a medical episode or mechanical failure that caused the vehicle to cross into oncoming traffic.

The female driver of the car is being assessed at the scene and interviewed by police.

Police, Oakville firefighters and Halton Region paramedics are on the scene.

Dundas Street has been closed in both directions.

Anyone with information can call police at 905-825-4747 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
