Centre[3] throws art party for Supercrawl weekend
If you are still looking for places to check out at Supercrawl, here is one of the many options at Hamilton's annual art and music festival.
Centre[3], an artist-run print and media arts centre on 173 James St. N. is having a special Supercrawl event. OFF HOURS, is a weekend-long art party featuring the work of staff members.
Printmakers, musicians, DJs, sculptors, writers, and filmmakers will gather at Centre [3]'s new Film Studio and showcase their artwork.
It's the first time post-COVID we are having this type of party. We're really trying to bring people back into the studios," said Lesley Loksi Chan, artistic director at Centre[3].
The annual art party had its first edition last year when the art centre reopened after the COVID-19 lockdown.
This exhibition was a small exploratory step toward understanding what it means to dialogue through art in uncertain times. And this year we are doing it again," said Loksi Chan.
Sharing artwork made outside of their roles as arts administrators, educators, studio technicians, installers, co-ordinators and curators, the exhibit offers a collection of printmaking techniques, photography, ceramics, sound, video game and mixed media.
Supercrawl is incredibly important for young folks in Hamilton. Experiencing our arts and culture sector in full swing made me fall in love with our city in the first place. I'm so thrilled it is coming back," said Centre[3] Fil Coordinator Arturo Jimenez.
According to Loksi Chan, the party is an opportunity to meet the centre's staff through an artistic perspective.
We've really missed the joy of Supercrawl. The pleasure of being completely surrounded by art, music and good spirits is so powerful. It will be wonderful for everyone to come together in person again," said Loksi Chan.
The OFF HOURS art party begins on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. on 126 James St. N. at Centre[3]'s Film Studio and it runs all Supercrawl weekend.
