The Denver Broncos and Russell Wilson have agreed to a five-year extension that'll keep him under contract through the 2028 season, the team announced Thursday.

The five-year pact is worth $245 million and includes $165 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

With an average annual value of $49 million, Wilson now only trails Aaron Rodgers for the league's highest-paid quarterback, according to Field Yates of ESPN.

Denver acquired the nine-time Pro Bowler this offseason from the Seattle Seahawks. Those two teams will square off in the season-opening Monday Night Football game Sept. 12.

In July, Wilson said he hoped to be Denver's quarterback "for a long, long time." Broncos general manager George Paton previously said extending Wilson was a "top priority."

Wilson has only missed three career games, although those came last year after he suffered a finger injury in Week 5.

However, the 11-year pro finished last season strong, throwing for 655 yards and nine touchdowns in his final three contests.

Wilson is currently 16th on the all-time quarterback wins list. He trails Terry Bradshaw by three victories and is 13 behind Joe Montana and Eli Manning.
