New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson will miss at least the first three games of the season, head coach Robert Saleh announced Wednesday.

"I really don't want to talk about the situation anymore, the earliest he's going to be available is (against the) Pittsburgh (Steelers in Week 4)," said Saleh.

Wilson was initially given a two-to-four week timeline after suffering a meniscus tear and bone bruise in the preseason opener and undergoing surgery.

He reportedly had a chance to play in Week 1, but Joe Flacco will instead start against the Baltimore Ravens in the opener and until Wilson is ready to return.

The sophomore quarterback hasn't suffered a setback and will be able to practice with the team, which is why New York didn't place him on injured reserve, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Wilson will, at minimum, miss a game on the road against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2 and a home matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 3.

Flacco will get his first start since Week 11 of last season against his former team. The veteran spent 11 seasons in Baltimore, winning a Super Bowl title in 2012.
