Four years after CHAR Technologies opened its demonstration pyrolysis plant in London, Ont., it's expanding and moving the operation to the Niagara Region. The facility cooks wood waste in a kiln in an oxygen-free process that allows conversion to a fossil coal replacement and renewable natural gas. "What's really important right now is to stay away from fossil fuels when possible," one researcher says.
