Former CTV News anchor Lisa LaFlamme will lead a rival network's coverage of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

In a Friday morning tweet, Rogers Sports and Media announced that LaFlamme, dismissed last month as anchor of CTV's flagship newscast, will feature as a special correspondent from London, leading CityNews' coverage of the Queen's life, her funeral and the transition to King Charles III.

The Queen is the only monarch most of us have ever known. We grew up with Her Majesty and mourn the passing of this remarkable and inspiring woman," said LaFlamme in a statement accompanying the announcement

As this second Elizabethan era comes to an end, I can only say how truly honoured I am to help tell the story of her life and the legacy she leaves."

In early August, LaFlamme released a video saying she was blindsided" by Bell Media's decision to end her contract at CTV National News.

Her dismissal from her position as chief news anchor and senior editor - cited by Bell as a business decision" - stirred controversy about whether sexism and ageism might have played a role.

Her video prompted several current and former employees to speak critically of the workplace culture at CTV News.

Bell has since announced it will launch an internal workplace review of the matter.
