Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is day-to-day after suffering a fracture to his rib cartilage in Thursday's 27-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Brandon Staley announced Friday, according to ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.

Herbert sustained the ailment late in the fourth quarter after taking a hit from Mike Danna. He was able to return to the game after missing one snap, but he was visibly in pain. The superstar passer finished the night with 334 yards and three touchdowns against one interception.

The 24-year-old was taken for X-rays after the game and was seen with his left arm tight to his side. His X-rays were negative, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.

"We got good news in terms of what the CT scan expressed. I think that is good news," Staley said Friday, according to USA Today's Tyler Dragon. "Playing quarterback, you don't want it to be a fracture to the bones. The fact that it's cartilage is a good sign."

Herbert, the 2020 Offensive Rookie of the Year, is off to a hot start to the 2022 season after completing 76% of his passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

The 1-1 Chargers host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Sept. 25.
