Flames sign Milano to PTO
The Calgary Flames signed forward Sonny Milano to a professional tryout Monday.
Milano enjoyed a career season with the Anaheim Ducks in 2021-22, scoring 14 goals and 34 points in 66 games. The 26-year-old averaged 15:17 of ice time, primarily playing in the middle six.
Originally a restricted free agent, Milano didn't receive a qualifying offer from Anaheim at the beginning of free agency. He's coming off a two-year contract with an average annual value of $1.7 million.
After Andrew Mangiapane and blockbuster addition Jonathan Huberdeau, Calgary has an open spot on its third line. Milano immediately becomes the favorite to play there should he earn a contract, with prospect Jakob Pelletier also set to battle for minutes.
Calgary has just over $2 million in cap space, according to CapFriendly.
