Hamilton police are investigating a death after a body was found in a west-end ravine.

The body of an unknown adult was found in a wooded area at the end of Lochearne Street near the intersection of Breadalbane Street - the site is just off Dundurn Street North between York Boulevard and King Street - on Sunday afternoon.

Hamilton's fire department was initially dispatched to the area for a possible rope rescue around 2 p.m.

Police said a death investigation was underway Sunday, but could not immediately offer any other information about the victim, how or when the person died.

Investigators taped off the end of the street nearest the ravine, which drops toward the railroad tracks and Kay Drage Park.

Two patrol cars were parked at the scene Sunday evening.
