The Atlanta Falcons placed running back Cordarrelle Patterson on injured reserve due to a lingering knee injury, head coach Arthur Smith said Monday.

The 31-year-old tailback is set to undergo a minor procedure with the expectation that he'll be back sooner rather than later, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. He'll miss at least four games before being eligible to return.

Patterson left the Falcons' 23-20 win over the Cleveland Browns due to the ailment. He finished Sunday's contest with 38 rushing yards and a touchdown.

The four-time Pro Bowler has rushed for 380 yards and three scores while averaging 5.9 yards per carry this season. Patterson is currently in his second campaign with the Falcons after racking up 1,166 scrimmage yards for 11 total scores last year.

Atlanta is also missing rusher Damien Williams, who suffered a rib injury in the team's season opener. The Falcons promoted halfback Caleb Huntley to the active roster after he rushed for 56 yards and a score Sunday. Tyler Allgeier also helped spur Atlanta's rushing attack.

The 2-2 Falcons will take on the 2-2 Tampa Bay Buccaneers next Sunday.
