Neighbourhood Stipley
Features Located near Tim Hortons Field and a short walk away from the Bernie Morelli Recreation Centre, this home is the only property in the neighbourhood that is listed for more than $1 million.
Tucked in on Lottridge Street, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom house boasts more than 2,300 square feet of living space and has a very castlelike feel," said Meghan Gracey, a salesperson with Coldwell Banker Momentum Realty.
Built in the 1920s, the property was originally known as the Loyal Orange Lodge and was built and used by Irish Freemasons. Once the Masons moved out, it was home to a series of different churches for more than seven decades.
When you think of a church, you think of a steeple and stained glass," said Gracey, who is also the owner of the home. It was our neighbours who came up with the nickname of The Castle.'"
The main floor of the home - once used as the sanctuary - features an open-concept kitchen, dining and living area with an original tin ceiling, three electric fireplaces and a stage. There is also an office, a two-piece bathroom and a walkout deck.
The second floor has a loft space that overlooks the living area as well as two bedrooms.
The third floor features the primary suite, a dressing room with laundry, a three-piece ensuite bathroom and a rooftop balcony. Downstairs, the basement has a full kitchen, a recreation space and a double whirlpool tub, housed inside the original baptism pool.
We really tried to embrace its quirkiness," said Gracey, noting that her husband spent the last three years completely renovating the building. It's basically a new home, but has that rustic appeal."
Gracey said the home would be ideal for a couple who want to live in a unique space," or an investor looking to turn it into a duplex.
Why is it priced this way? Gracey said the price for the house was influenced by the cost of renovations, the size of the home and its proximity to the future Hamilton LRT.
