Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a fractured fibula in Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints, head coach Pete Carroll announced Monday, according to Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune.

Penny, who also has a high ankle sprain, will undergo surgery.

"Really just a heartbreaking loss for him," said Carroll.

The running back was carted to the locker room. He was spotted wearing a boot and using crutches after the game, according to Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic.

Penny accumulated 54 yards on eight carries before exiting. He entered Week 5 with 292 rushing yards while averaging 6 yards per attempt.

Kenneth Walker will likely receive the bulk of the workload for the rest of the campaign. The second-round rookie rushed for 88 yards Sunday, including a 69-yard touchdown.
