McCarthy: Cowboys preparing for Rush to start SNF vs. Eagles

The Dallas Cowboys are preparing for quarterback Cooper Rush to start Sunday night's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Mike McCarthy announced Wednesday, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB.

Rush started the last four games for Dallas in place of the injured Dak Prescott, posting a 4-0 record and passing for 775 yards and four touchdowns against zero interceptions.

Prescott suffered a hand injury in Week 1 and was reportedly expected to miss four-to-six weeks. The 29-year-old initially said he was planning to return in Week 5 versus the Los Angeles Rams.

"Dak Prescott will be in the rehab group, go through QB school, and do some light throwing at the end of practice," McCarthy said Wednesday, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.

Prescott threw to wide receivers at practice Wednesday for the first time since sustaining the ailment.

"Solid - ask the receivers," Prescott said of the training session, according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News.

He added, "I always got some pop on my balls. I'm not going to throw if I ain't got pop on my balls."

Sunday's game between the Eagles and Cowboys is one of the most anticipated matchups of the season. Philadelphia, the NFL's only undefeated team after five weeks, averages 27 points per game, ranking fifth in the league.

Meanwhile, Dallas' defense - which ranks third in points allowed and second in sacks - has been crucial for the team's 4-1 start.
